How To Avoid Work At Home Scams

They are found all over the Internet, these work at home scams.
They are on fliers, classified ads, and posters. And, unless you
know how to avoid work at home scams or at least how to spot one,
then it’s quite possible you will be taken for a ride. Here are
some tips that you can use to avoid fraudulent work at home
schemes.

1. Do not give your personal information to people you don’t
know.

Identity theft, account theft, and other worse things could happen
the moment you hand out your information and other important
details to virtual strangers or people you just met but already
trust for reasons you cannot explain. When in doubt, check with
the Better Business Bureau or the FTC.

2. Ask for upfront information.
A legitimate business has no qualms giving out detailed
information such as your pay, the work involved, the work hours
needed, and other such specifics. This is information you do not
have to pay for so if someone asks you to plunk down cash just to
get access to these details, don’t. Remember, you are looking for
work to earn money. Why should you be paying your employer
instead?

3. Verify claims.
Making up testimonials is easy enough. Any enterprising conman can
fill his webpage with raves from people who do not even exist.
Rather than believe everything you see, do a little digging. Talk
to one of the so-called happy customers. Call them, email them.
Then, ask people who are in the position to know if such work
actually exists and if one can really make money from it.

4. Learn who you will be working for.
You may not be an expert on how to avoid work at home scams but an
employer you never see is a red flag even the uninitiated cannot
ignore. Be very wary of companies that claim to be based overseas
or tell you they cannot pay you directly for this reason or that.

5. Don’t fall for get-rich quick schemes.
If it sounds too god to be true, then it probably is. There are no
shortcuts to success or riches - unless you win the lottery.
Remember that it takes time and effort to build a business. Donald
Trump, Bill Gates, and other entrepreneurial mavericks did not
have the well-oiled, money-making machines they now have when they
were only starting out. They started small and built their
business from scratch. What this tells you is that companies
promising huge profits for little or even zero efforts are
figments of the imagination. That, or the work of a fraudster.

So the next time you are told you can make $8,000 a week simply
filling out surveys or $40,000 in less than 30 days, raise a
skeptical eyebrow and do your research. You may not be an expert
on how to avoid work at home scams but you certainly have not lost
your common sense. No one in his right mind will pay you oodles of
money so you can sit there and fill out forms whenever you feel
like it.
